We’ve got a fully mobile catering kitchen, so we’ll come to your location! Kermit Turrentine's journey into BBQ began on his family's farm, where he learned traditional North Carolina Bar-B-Q techniques as a child. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he continued honing his BBQ skills, eventually creating the renowned Turrentine grill and smoker. In 2017, he won first place in a whole hog BBQ competition, sparking his entrepreneurial spirit. Kermit debuted his BBQ at the Topsail Beach jazz festival in 2018, gaining widespread acclaim. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he built the Turrentine Smoking Good BBQ mobile kitchen, which launched in 2021, making waves across North Carolina's BBQ scene at festivals and university homecomings
2017 Bethel Hill Ruritan Club’s first barbecue cookoff competition. Kermit Turrentine of Rougemont won first place, taking home $1,000 in prize money. Over 300 people attended the event, which raised $1,000 for the club’s scholarship fund. The event was held at Merritt Commons in Uptown Roxboro and included sponsorships from local businesses. This was the first time the Ruritan Club had held a barbecue cookoff, but they hope to make it an annual event.

Durham, NC was a successful event featuring talented cook teams,
including newcomer Kermit Turrentine and the Smokinggood BBQ Team. Kermit stood out by winning first place in BBQ brisket and third place in pulled pork categories, showcasing his rising star status in competitive barbecue. Kermit's success hints at future achievements, while the Bull City BBQ Bash
solidifies Durham's reputation as
a culinary hotspot.
